A common misconception about taweez is that they are small metal boxes or lockets worn on the neck. In reality, they are very similar to a necklace. They are usually made from differrent metals such as iron, steel, silver and gold.

They are a type of Taweez islam They contain compressed energy which is supposed to change the course of events in one’s life. They are usually infused with a specific du’a from the Qur’an and Ahadith.

It is permissible to wear a taweez around the neck, as long as the du’a contained in it is written from the Qur’an or Ahadith. Prophet Muhammad (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) and the companions of the Prophet used to recite du’a over their sick and this has proven to have healing effects.

However, the taweez should be put away in the fridge or a dark place so that it does not get affected by water and bad smells. If the taweez gets affected by water or bad smells, it loses its power and will not work.

The main issue is that the talismans should be handmade, printed and recited in a very precise way – they have to be recited an exact number of times so that they are empowered with energy. When they are printed or emailed, they do not have that empowerment and will not work.
